چکیده

Microplastics (MPs) provide persistent contaminants in freshwaters and the oceans from anthropogenic sources worldwide. MP contamination ecosystems has emerged as a global environmental issue. While increasing research focused on ecological consequences of plastic pollution, health-related implications pollution have been somewhat overlooked. In this study, we evaluated effects polyethylene microbial, physical, biochemical characteristics hydrothermal vent crab Xenograpsus testudinatus over 7-day food exposure. Different concentrations (0%, 0.3%, 0.6%, 1.0%) MPs were used for feed intake experiments. Oxford Nanopore Technologies’ full-length sequencing 16S rDNA gene was to explore changes microbial composition tissues. At phylum level, content Firmicutes significantly decreased digestive gland tissue. Furthermore, predicted functions genes community influenced by MPs. contrast, there eight gill 11 tissues identified at low high levels. The dominant methylotrophy, dark thiosulfate oxidation, oxidation sulfur compounds, aromatic hydrocarbon degradation, compound degradation increased levels gland. These findings indicate that ingestion causes not only short-term decrease energy crustaceans but also change communities their functions. This study provided first account toxicity aid assessment health risks marine invertebrates.

Bacterial Community Associated with Organs of Shallow Hydrothermal Vent Crab Xenograpsus testudinatus near Kuishan Island, Taiwan

Shallow-water hydrothermal vents off Kueishan Island (northeastern Taiwan) provide a unique, sulfur-rich, highly acidic (pH 1.75-4.6) and variable-temperature environment. In this species-poor habitat, the crab Xenograpsus testudinatus is dominant, as it mainly feeds on zooplankton killed by sulfurous plumes. In this study, 16S ribosomal RNA gene amplicon pyrosequencing was used to investigate ...

Metabolic energy demand and food utilization of the hydrothermal vent crab Xenograpsus testudinatus (Crustacea: Brachyura)

The hydrothermal vent crab Xenograpsus testudinatus (Crustacea: Brachyura) is endemic near Kueishan Island, Taiwan, where it lives in shallow waters close to the hydrothermal vents located in this area. X. testudinatus is adapted to a sulfur-rich and thus potentially toxic environment. It has established a specialized feeding strategy focusing on dead zooplankton organisms killed by the toxic d...

Strong Ion Regulatory Abilities Enable the Crab Xenograpsus testudinatus to Inhabit Highly Acidified Marine Vent Systems

Hydrothermal vent organisms have evolved physiological adaptations to cope with extreme abiotic conditions including temperature and pH. To date, acid-base regulatory abilities of vent organisms are poorly investigated, although this physiological feature is essential for survival in low pH environments. We report the acid-base regulatory mechanisms of a hydrothermal vent crab, Xenograpsus test...

Evidence of chemolithoautotrophy in the bacterial community associated with Alvinella pompejana, a hydrothermal vent polychaete.

The deep-sea polychaete Alvinella pompejana colonizes tubes on the sides of black smoker chimneys along the East Pacific Rise. A diverse, yet phylogenetically constrained episymbiotic community is obligately associated with its dorsal surface. The morphologically and phylogenetically distinct dominant episymbionts have not yet been cultured, and there are no clearly defined roles for these bact...

An Unusual Stress Metabolite from a Hydrothermal Vent Fungus Aspergillus sp. WU 243 Induced by Cobalt.

A novel hybrid polyketide-terpenoid, aspergstressin (1), possessing a unique fused polycyclic structure, was induced from culture broth of strain Aspergillus sp. WU 243 by cobalt ion stimulation. The strain was isolated from the digestive gland of Xenograpsus testudinatus, a unique type of crab which dwells in the Kueishantao hydrothermal vents off Taiwan. The chemical structure and relative co...
