Battery powered dual-polarity ion detector for trace chemical sensing

Trace chemical detection plays an important role in evaluating environmental hazards as well benign sources. We have developed a low power dual-polarity ionization-based detector. The detector electronics are operated with single 9 V battery and provide concentration sensitive voltage outputs. mode can be set manually the on-board or controlled microcontroller compatible digital input. complete assembly operation of is detailed. features make it suitable to standalone system integrated sub-system into field-portable analytical platform. achieve step response ~1.6 s. performed laboratory measurements several ionized chemicals using both positive negative mode. results showed highly linear responses at trace concentrations 100 ppb. • Low ion onboard for portable integration. Designed commercially available off-the-shelf (COTS) components standard battery. abundance detection, VOCs. As proof concept, photoionized levels was performed.
