چکیده
ABSTRACT The impact of stellar rotation on the morphology star cluster colour–magnitude diagrams is widely acknowledged. However, physics driving distribution equatorial velocities main-sequence turn-off stars as yet poorly understood. Using Gaia Data Release 2 photometry and new Southern African Large Telescope medium-resolution spectroscopy, we analyse intermediate-age ($\sim 1\text{-}{\rm Gyr}$-old) Galactic open clusters NGC 3960, 6134, IC 4756 develop a novel method to derive their distributions based SYCLIST models. Combined with literature data for 5822 2818, find tight correlation between number ratio slow rotators clusters’ binary fractions. blue-main-sequence in at least two our are more centrally concentrated than red-main-sequence counterparts. origin its evolution remains unidentified. observed sample suggests binary-driven formation mechanism.

Stromgren Photometry at the Main-Sequence Turn-Off
We have observed (with vby filters) a field north of the core of the most massive globular cluster in our galaxy, ω Centauri. We have found a correlation of age and metallicity in a region which avoids the dense core and the inhomogeneous foreground dust emission shown by the IRAS satellite. Our observations show that the comparatively metal-rich stars (as defined by the (b− y) and m1 colors) a...
متن کاملThe Main Sequence of Star Clusters
A novel way of looking at the evolution of star clusters is presented. With a dynamical temperature, given by the mean kinetic energy of the cluster stars, and a dynamical luminosity, which is defined as the kinetic energy of the stars leaving the cluster in analogy to the energy of photons emitted by a star, the dissolution of star clusters is studied using a new dynamical temperature-luminosi...
متن کاملOn the origin of double main-sequence turn-offs in star clusters of the Magellanic Clouds
Recent observational studies of intermediate-age star clusters (SCs) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) have reported that a significant number of these objects show double main-sequence turn-offs (DMSTOs) in their color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs). One plausible explanation for the origin of these DMSTOs is that the SCs are composed of two different stellar populations with age differences of ∼...
متن کاملScaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
متن کاملStellar Rotation in Young Clusters. Ii. Evolution of Stellar Rotation and Surface Helium Abundance
We derive the effective temperatures and gravities of 461 OB stars in 19 young clusters by fitting the H profile in their spectra. We use synthetic model profiles for rotating stars to develop a method to estimate the polar gravity for these stars, which we argue is a useful indicator of their evolutionary status. We combine these results with projected rotational velocity measurements obtained...
