Binary Mixtures of Colloidal Cellulose Nanocrystals and Laponite for Preparation of Functional Nanocomposites

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are attractive substances with interesting colloidal self-assembly behavior and rheological properties due to their rigid rod morphology. In this paper, the aqueous dispersion characteristics as well rheological, optical, structural of binary mixtures CNCs Laponite (L) investigated in detail. We obtain various complex structures by using Laponite. A phase diagram consisting sol, isotropic gel, birefringent nematic gel phases is obtained. Our findings envisage that system will serve a model one two dimensions interactions. To go further, we demonstrate fabrication nanocomposite thin films aerogels from mixtures. For former, they can be used efficient absorbers pollutants such Nile blue Rhodamine B dyes solution, while as-obtained display enhanced flame retardation behavior.
