چکیده
Despite their sustainability, the potential of biocatalytic processes in industrial production is far from being realized. The main challenges this field are development highly active, robust, and stable biocatalysts, efficient regeneration cofactors, prevention biocatalyst deactivation under harsh conditions. In addition to engineering, enzyme cell immobilization plays a crucial role process feasibility. Reactor miniaturization, continuous operation, integration with situ product removal, analytics, cascade reactions that reduce number steps enable intensification. Mathematical model–based reactor design comprising time-scale analysis capacity increase can push boundaries toward requirements. This review highlights latest trends immobilization, intensify processes.

Process Intensification via Membrane Reactors, the DEMCAMER Project
This paper reports the findings of a FP7 project (DEMCAMER) that developed materials (catalysts and membranes) and new processes for four industrially relevant reaction processes. In this project, active, stable, and selective catalysts were developed for the reaction systems of interest and their production scaled up to kg scale (TRL5 (TRL: Technology Readiness Level)). Simultaneously, new mem...
متن کاملImprovement of the Process Stability of Arylmalonate Decarboxylase by Immobilization for Biocatalytic Profen Synthesis
The enzyme arylmalonate decarboxylase (AMDase) enables the selective synthesis of enantiopure (S)-arylpropinates in a simple single-step decarboxylation of dicarboxylic acid precursors. However, the poor enzyme stability with a half-life time of about 1.2 h under process conditions is a serious limitation of the productivity, which results in a need for high catalyst loads. By immobilization on...
متن کاملProcess Intensification in Multiphase Reactors
Introduction Applications of multiphase technology are prevalent in petroleum refining, synthesis gas conversion to fuels and chemicals, bulk commodity chemicals, specialty chemicals, conversion of undesired by-products to recyclable products, manufacture of polymers, biotechnology and pollution abatement. In these processes the reactor performance is crucial: it determines the number and size ...
متن کاملProcess intensification in mechanical pulping
Process intensification is a term used in the chemical process industry for major improvements in the process design leading to radical changes in process complexity, equipment size and efficiency. We suggest that a similar approach is applied in the pulp and paper industry. We have focused on the production of mechanical pulp, but a similar approach can be applied to other areas within the pul...
