Biofilm microbiome in extracorporeal membrane oxygenator catheters

چکیده
Despite the formation of biofilms on catheters for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), some patients do not show bacteremia. To elucidate specific linkage between and bacteremia in with ECMO, an improved understanding microbial community within catheter is necessary. Hence, we aimed to evaluate biofilm microbiome ECMO from adults (n = 6) without 15) The microbiomes were evaluated by profiling V3 V4 regions bacterial 16s rRNA genes using Illumina MiSeq sequencing platform. In total, 2,548,172 reads, average 121,341 reads per sample, generated. Although alpha diversity was slightly higher non-bacteremic group, difference statistically significant. addition, there no beta two groups. We found 367 different genera, which 8 present all samples regardless group; Limnohabitans , Flavobacterium Delftia Massilia Bacillus Candidatus Xiphinematobacter CL0-1 showed abundance more than 1% sample. particular, Arthrobacter SMB53 Neisseria Ortrobactrum Rhabdochlamydia Deefgae Dyella Paracoccus Pedobacter highly abundant bacteremic group. Network analysis indicated that group complex CL0 . 1 considered important genera because they connected subnetworks. Biofilm characteristics varied according presence or absence There significant differences groups, but composition biofilms. biofilm-associated dynamic, showing very network connections microbiome.

Anticoagulation Therapy during Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenator Support in Pediatric Patients
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a salvage therapy for critically ill patients. Although ECMO is becoming more common, hemorrhagic and thromboembolic complications remain the major causes of death in patients undergoing ECMO treatments. These complications commence upon blood contact with artificial surfaces of the circuit, blood pump, and oxygenator system. Therefore, anticoagulat...

Patients requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) often become totally dependent on the mechanical life support. The Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) reports 2486 incidents of mechanical complications in 5905 ECMO supports. To help decrease the number of mechanical complications, an active quality assurance program was initiated at our institution. This resulted in...

Although heart transplantation is a final therapeutic option in pediatric patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCMP), the shortage of pediatric heart donors is a major obstacle. In adults with DCMP characterized by cardiac dyssynchrony, cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is known to be an effective treatment option. However, there is a lack of evidence on the effectiveness of CRT in infan...
متن کاملUsing anti-platelet therapy to prevent extracorporeal membrane oxygenator thrombosis without heparin resistance and with thrombocytopenia
Anticoagulation is widely used for preventing membrane oxygenator thrombosis during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy while anti-platelets are rarely used, especially in patients with thrombocytopenia [1]. Here we report a case of successfully using anti-platelet treatment to prevent recurrent extracorporeal membrane oxygenator thrombosis in a fulminant myocarditis (FM) patient...
