Biogas upgrading, economy and utilization: a review

چکیده

Biogas production is rising in the context of fossil fuel decline and future circular economy, yet raw biogas requires purification steps before use. Here, we review upgrading using physical, chemical biological methods such as water scrubbing, physical absorption, pressure swing adsorption, cryogenic separation, membrane chemoautotrophic methods, photosynthetic desorption. We also discuss their techno-economic feasibility. found that technologies are near-optimal, but still require high energy resources. Biological less explored despite promising potential. High-pressure scrubbing more economic for small-sized plants, whereas potassium carbonate provides maximum net value large-sized plants.

Utilization of CO2 fixating bacterium Actinobacillus succinogenes 130Z for simultaneous biogas upgrading and biosuccinic acid production.

Biogas is an attractive renewable energy carrier. However, it contains CO2 which limits its use for certain applications. Here we report a novel approach for removing CO2 from biogas and capturing it as a biochemical through a biological process. This approach entails converting CO2 into biosuccinic acid using the bacterial strain Actinobacillus succinogenes 130 Z, and simultaneously producing ...

Selected Methods of Advanced Biogas Upgrading

The upgrading of biogas for the production of biomethane to be injected to the natural gas grid has gained significant importance in recent years. It is often considered to be superior to the production of electricity and district heat with internal combustion engines mainly because of better energy utilisation, higher flexibility and beneficial economic prospects. Biogas upgrading is commonly ...

Operational Study and Simulation of a Biogas Upgrading Plant

Samson O. Masebinu, Akinwale O. Aboyade, Edison Muzenda Abstract-The drive for finding alternative energy to supplement fossil based fuel within the South African energy sector has led to research on waste to energy in particular biomethane as vehicular fuels. Biogas is produced from the anaerobic decomposition of organic matter with 40-70% vol. of methane. Biogas if upgraded, by removing the n...
