Breakage of flawed particles by peridynamic simulations

In this paper, we use a 2D bond-based peridynamic model to investigate the strength of disk-shaped particles including pre-cracks. We diametral (or Brazilian) test break particles. For flawless particles, find that stress distribution compares well with an analytical accounting for size contact zone, and particle stiffness tends linearly well-defined value increasingly resolved meshing. then introduce cracks, which are numerically defined by reducing Young modulus bonds crossing linear segments. consider in detail effect single vertical crack on yield as function its position. also randomly distributed population cracks sizes generated from Gaussian distribution. parametric study hundred found probability failure is fit Weibull law. Finally, using image analysis algorithm, statistics resulting fragments.
