چکیده
We have studied the ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}\mathrm{O}$ ice VII--ice X phase transition at room temperature by performing three quasicontinuous synchrotron time-resolved x-ray-diffraction experiments in a dynamic diamond anvil cell, reaching pressures of 180 GPa. The dense pressure coverage our volume data allows us to directly derive bulk modulus for over entire range. Our document major changes compression behavior ranges 35--40, 50--55, and 90--110 GPa, likely corresponding formation pretransition dynamically disordered VII X, static respectively. results confirm that has very high modulus.

Ultrafast structural changes measured by time-resolved X-ray diffraction
High-intensity X-ray pulses from third-generation synchrotron sources make it possible to study the temporal dynamics of rapidly evolving materials. We report a study of rapid and reversible disordering of the structure of an InSb crystal induced by an ultrashort laser pulse. A novel crosscorrelation detection technique is described, which allowed us to observe rapid changes in X-ray diffractio...
متن کاملA novel diamond anvil cell for x-ray diffraction at cryogenic temperatures manufactured by 3D printing.
A new miniature high-pressure diamond anvil cell was designed and constructed using 3D micro laser sintering technology. This is the first application of the use of rapid prototyping technology to construct high-pressure apparatus. The cell is specifically designed for use as an X-ray diffraction cell that can be used with commercially available diffractometers and open-flow cryogenic equipment...
متن کاملIn situ laser heating and radial synchrotron x-ray diffraction in a diamond anvil cell.
We report a first combination of diamond anvil cell radial x-ray diffraction with in situ laser heating. The laser-heating setup of ALS beamline 12.2.2 was modified to allow one-sided heating of a sample in a diamond anvil cell with an 80 W yttrium lithium fluoride laser while probing the sample with radial x-ray diffraction. The diamond anvil cell is placed with its compressional axis vertical...
متن کاملTime-resolved x-ray diffraction techniques for bulk polycrystalline materials under dynamic loading.
We have developed two techniques for time-resolved x-ray diffraction from bulk polycrystalline materials during dynamic loading. In the first technique, we synchronize a fast detector with loading of samples at strain rates of ~10(3)-10(4) s(-1) in a compression Kolsky bar (split Hopkinson pressure bar) apparatus to obtain in situ diffraction patterns with exposures as short as 70 ns. This appr...
متن کاملExcited-state structure by time-resolved X-ray diffraction.
X-ray crystallography has traditionally been limited to the study of the ground-state structure of molecules and solids. Recent technical advances are removing this limitation as demonstrated here by a time-resolved stroboscopic study of the photo-induced 50 micros lifetime excited triplet state of the [Pt(2)(pop)(4)](4-)ion [pop = pyrophosphate, (H(2)P(2)O(5))(2-)], performed at helium tempera...
