چکیده

Charitable fundraisers frequently announce giving by others, and research shows that this can increase donations. However, mechanism may not put information about peers to the most efficient use if it is costly inform individuals who are indifferent peer actions or causes some give less. We investigate whether a simple without incentives predict heterogeneity in charitable responses decisions. elicit beliefs donations baseline solicitation, subsequent solicitations we randomly assign others’ find elicited often logically inconsistent many subjects fail update when treated. Elicited did heterogeneous treatment effects on donations, making strategy unlikely succeed unless engaged salient.

Exploring Existential Guilt Appeals in the Context of Charitable Advertisements

This study explores the relationship between existential guilt, inferences of manipulative intent, attitude towards the brand, and donation behaviour intentions. A scale was also developed to measure existential guilt. Although it is exploratory in nature, it fills the gap in the literature that guilt is not a unified construct and should be measured separately. This research found that consume...

Belief Heterogeneity, Collateral Constraint, and Asset Prices∗

The recent economic crisis highlights the role of financial markets in allowing economic agents, including prominent banks, to speculate on the future returns of different financial assets, such as mortgage-backed securities. This paper introduces a dynamic general equilibriummodel with aggregate shocks, endogeneously incomplete markets and heterogeneous agents to investigate this role of finan...

Belief Heterogeneity and Survival in Incomplete Markets

In complete markets economies (Sandroni [15]), or in economies with Pareto optimal outcomes (Blume and Easley [9]), the market selection hypothesis holds, as long as traders have identical discount factors. Traders who survive must have beliefs that merge with the truth. We show that in incomplete markets, regardless of traders’ discount factors, the market selects for a range of beliefs, at le...

Can Mechanism Designers Exploit Buyers’ Market Information

Competing mechanism games can have many equilibrium outcomes when mechanism designers can use mechanisms which ask agents to report deviations. Existing folk theorems assume agents have perfect information about designers’ mechanisms, that they can costlessly convey very complex messages, and that they use weakly dominated strategies. This paper addresses two questions. The first is whether the...
