چکیده
Investigating the possibility of lower-level computer programming courses predicting future performance science students has received a lot attention from scholars. This study mainly aimed to predict success based on their in first two courses, namely Computer Programming I and II. The employed quantitative correlational design. Six years data graduating were analyzed. results demonstrate that better grade II, shorter duration. When further analysis was conducted find out whether gender diversity exists, demonstrated female outperformed males. Statistically, this difference only significant I. A greater proportion graduated time, yet it is not statistically significant.

Performance in an Introductory Computer Programming Course as a Predictor of Future Success for Engineering and Computer Science Majors
Abstract In most schools, introductory computer programming courses are required for computer science as well as all engineering majors. It is generally believed that the programming courses are not just about programming per se, but that they provide a forum for teaching precise and logical thought processes. Computer programming courses constitute a necessary background for computer science...
متن کاملUsing Students' Programming Behavior to Predict Success in an Introductory Mathematics Course
Computer science students starting their studies at our university often fail their first mandatory mathematics course, as they are not required to have a strong background in mathematics. Failing can also be partly explained by the need to adjust to a new environment and new working practices. Here, we are looking for indicators in students’ working practices that could be used to point out st...
متن کاملThe Effect of Changing Programming Language to Student Success in Undergraduate Computer Science Curriculum
. We measure and compare the effects of changing the programming language in introductory level courses (Computer Science I and II) in undergraduate Computer Science (CS) curriculum. The study presents the example of University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) case, where we present the results of two approaches: Approach 1 where both CS I and CS II courses are taught in Java, and Aprroach 2 where CS I...
متن کاملHOW CAN INCENTIVES IMPROVE THE SUCCESS OF DISADVANTAGED COLLEGE STUDENTS? Insights from the Social Science
Achievement gaps among college students from different social class, racial, or ethnic backgrounds are ubiquitous and a persistent problem in the United States (Bowen, Kurzweil, & Tobin, 2005; Steele, 2010). Students who are low-income, first-generation, or underrepresented racial or ethnic minorities receive lower grades, take longer to graduate, and drop out at higher rates than high-income, ...
متن کاملSQ Minus EQ can Predict Programming Aptitude
Students from an introductory programming class were given several tests in an attempt to establish whether any of their test scores correlated well with their measured programming ability. It was discovered that, when used in combination, the Autism Research Centre’s SQ [1] and EQ [2] tests showed a high correlation (r = .67) with a test for programming ability. Individually, SQ and EQ show mo...
