Carbon Circular Utilization and Partially Geological Sequestration: Potentialities, Challenges, and Trends

چکیده

Enhancing carbon emission mitigation and utilization have become necessary for the world to respond climate change caused by increase of greenhouse gas concentrations. As a result, capture, utilization, storage (CCUS) technologies attracted considerable attention worldwide, especially in China, which plans achieve peak before 2030 neutrality 2060. This paper proposed six priorities current world’s largest emitter, its dual strategy green energy transition process. We analyzed summarized challenges potentialities conventional (CU), capture (CCU), CCUS. Based on development trend, dioxide circular (CCCUS) technology that integrates partial sequestration, with large-scale underground were proposed, namely biomethanation. Technically economically, biomethanation was believed an essential contribution China’s renewable storage, as well economy. The preliminary investigation reveals significant potential, corresponding capacity 5.94 × 108 t~7.98 t 3.29 1012 kWh~4.42 kWh. Therefore, we believe addition vigorously developing classical CCUS technology, technical research pilot projects CCCUS combined also need be carried out complete reserve dual-carbon target.

Critical Dynamics of Gravito-Convective Mixing in Geological Carbon Sequestration

When CO2 is injected in saline aquifers, dissolution causes a local increase in brine density that can cause Rayleigh-Taylor-type gravitational instabilities. Depending on the Rayleigh number, density-driven flow may mix dissolved CO2 throughout the aquifer at fast advective time-scales through convective mixing. Heterogeneity can impact density-driven flow to different degrees. Zones with low ...

Water Challenges for Geologic Carbon Capture and Sequestration

Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) has been proposed as a means to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the continued use of fossil fuels. For geologic sequestration, the carbon dioxide is captured from large point sources (e.g., power plants or other industrial sources), transported to the injection site and injected into deep geological formations for storage. This will produ...

A fluid pressure and deformation analysis for geological sequestration of carbon dioxide

We present a fluid pressure and deformation analysis for geological sequestration of carbon dioxide based on a simplified hydro-mechanical model. This model includes the geomechanical part that relies on the theory of linear elasticity, while the fluid flow is based on the Darcy’s law. Two parts are coupled together using the linear poroelasticity theory. For a typical geological sequestration ...

Utilization of Biomineralization Processes with Fly Ash for Carbon Sequestration

Introduction The Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Information Administration estimates atmospheric greenhouse gas releases may exceed 8 billion metric tons by the year 2010 heightening its international environmental concern. Carbon dioxide will dominate the greenhouse gases (Kane and Klein, 1997) and the majority of these results from the use of fossil fuels. With viable replacement of fossil...
