Carbon emissions in China's thermal electricity and heating industry: An input-output structural decomposition analysis

نویسندگان

چکیده

CO2 emissions from China accounted for 27 per cent of global emisions in 2019. More than one third China's come the thermal electricity and heating sector. Unfortunately, this area has received limited academic attention. This research aims to find key drivers sector, as well investigating how energy policies affect those drivers. We use data 2007 2018 decompose into four types, namely: structure; intensity; input-output demand heating. that is main driver increase emissions, intensity a slight effect on increasing carbon emissions. Improving structure can significantly help reduce but optimising only influence. study complements existing literature finds continuous upgrading power generation technology less effective at reducing needs be accompanied by market reform prices. Second, extends enriches application IO-SDA method. In terms policy implications, we suggest should more flexible adaptive varying socio-economic conditions different cities provinces China. Accelerating market-oriented reforms with regard pricing also important if benefits innovation are realised.

Energy-Dominated Local Carbon Emissions in Beijing 2007: Inventory and Input-Output Analysis

For greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by Beijing economy 2007, a concrete emission inventory covering carbon dioxide (CO(2)), methane (CH(4)), and nitrous oxide (N(2)O) is presented and associated with an input-output analysis to reveal the local GHG embodiment in final demand and trade without regard to imported emissions. The total direct GHG emissions amount to 1.06E + 08 t CO(2)-eq, of which e...

Decoupling and Decomposition Analysis of Carbon Emissions from Electric Output in the United States

The rapid growth of the electricity sector in the United States has been accompanied by a dramatic rise in CO2 emissions. To understand the driving effects that contribute to the increase in CO2 emissions during electricity generation, as well as the relationship between the emissions and electricity output, a novel decoupling index on the basis of the multilevel logarithmic mean divisia index ...

Decoupling and Decomposition Analysis of Carbon Emissions from Industry: A Case Study from China

China has overtaken the United States as the world’s largest producer of carbon dioxide, with industrial carbon emissions (ICE) accounting for approximately 65% of the country’s total emissions. Understanding the ICE decoupling patterns and factors influencing the decoupling status is a prerequisite for balancing economic growth and carbon emissions. This paper provides an overview of ICE based...
