Causal Loop Diagrams for supporting Nature Based Solutions participatory design and performance assessment

چکیده

The contribution of Nature Based Solutions (NBSs) for supporting climate change adaptation and water-related risks reduction is becoming increasingly relevant policy decision-makers, compared to ‘grey infrastructures’, thanks their capability jointly deal with a multiplicity societal environmental challenges, producing several co-benefits besides limiting the impacts risks. Nevertheless, mainstreaming still limited by barriers, which are often related socio-institutional (e.g. cooperation stakeholders' involvement, awareness about NBSs impacts) rather than technical aspects. In this context, innovative tools planning, design, implementation assessment required, along effective processes capable participation. present research aims propose shift in approach based on early involvement identification, modelling performance terms benefits and, particularly, production. A multi-step methodology was implemented purpose, combining both individual participatory activities. Reference made one case studies NAIAD project, namely Balta Potelu Pond Area (Lower Danube, Romania). Causal Loop Diagrams (CLDs) were used describe system causal connections mutual influences, incorporating views ideas. Inputs from institutional ministries municipalities) non-institutional stakeholders NGOs members local communities) integrated. This allowed comparative multiple NBSs, analysis produced, as well identification trade-offs among different increase agricultural production versus biodiversity conservation) potential side effects. CLDs then coupled Performance Matrix (a basic feature Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis) fuzzy logic help decision-makers identify most suitable area. whole process aimed at facilitating selection analysis, while considering associated implementation.

ARCHIVES Problems with causal-loop diagrams

Founded in the mid1950s, the field of system dynamics has intellectual roots reaching much further into the past. The Archives section of the Review seeks to publish material from that past which can contribute to current theory and practice. The section welcomes previously unpublished but deserving system dynamics work, classics from past system dynamics literature that should receive renewed ...

Causal Loop Based Change Propagation and Risk Assessment

The implications of initiating a new project or making changes on an already existing system can potentially have substantial influence on the system itself, other conflicting systems, or more non-technology oriented aspects. This paper addresses how systemigrams and causal loop diagrams (CLD) can be used for communicating holistic and common system models to different segments of an organizati...

Developing System Dynamics Models from Causal Loop Diagrams

In this paper we discuss how a Causal Loop diagram (CLD) can be labeled and structured incrementally in order to finally transform it into a Stock and Flow diagram. A CLD does not contain enough information to describe a model uniquely. Hence the decisions on how to transform the CLD cannot be made automatically; they must be based on information about the modeled system. We describe a general ...

Effects of causal loop diagrams on escalating commitment

Previous research suggests that decision makers have the tendency to keep on investing in losing courses of action. The present study focuses on de-escalation and proposes causal loop diagrams as a technique to decrease escalating commitment in a failing action. The effectiveness of causal loop diagrams is also contrasted with the effect of receiving a list of important factors. Causal loop dia...
