Cerebral Cortex Activation and Gait Performance between Healthy and Prefrail Older Adults during Cognitive and Walking Tasks

چکیده
Pre-frailty is a transitional stage between health and frailty. Previous studies have demonstrated that individuals with pre-frailty experience declines in cognitive gait performances compared healthy individuals. However, the basic neural mechanism underlying this needs to be clarified. In cross-sectional study, twenty-one older adults fifteen underwent three conditions, including single task (SC), walking (SW), dual-task (DT), while cortical hemodynamic reactions were measured using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). The prefrail group (PG) showed significantly lower activation of left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (L-DLPFC) than (HG) when performing SC (p < 0.05). PG Timed Up Go test step speed HG during SW coefficient variation (CV) length was higher DT No significant correlation cerebral parameters noted > Participants oxygenated area anterior (L-APFC) had frequency (r = −0.533, p 0.041), so did following indicators DT: L-APFC −0.557, 0.031); right −0.610, 0.016); motor −0.674, 0.006); −0.656, 0.008); −0.535, 0.040). negative correlations indicated compensatory effect pre-frailty. Therefore, promote compensate for impaired sensorimotor systems.

INTRODUCTION cognitive deterioration and reductions of bone health coincide with increasing age. We examine the relationship between bone composition and plasma markers of bone remodelling with measures of cognitive performance in healthy adults. METHODS this cross-sectional study included 225 old (52% women, mean age: 74.4 ± 3.3 years) and 134 young (52% women, mean age: 23.4 ± 2.7 years) ad...
متن کاملDifferences in lower-extremity muscular activation during walking between healthy older and young adults.
Previous studies have identified differences in gait kinetics between healthy older and young adults. However, the underlying factors that cause these changes are not well understood. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of age and speed on the activation of lower-extremity muscles during human walking. We recorded electromyography (EMG) signals of the soleus, gastrocnemius, bi...
متن کاملDemographic Variables and Selective, Sustained Attention and Planning through Cognitive Tasks among Healthy Adults
Introduction: Cognitive tasks are considered to be applicable and appropriate in assessing cognitive domains. The purpose of our study is to determine the relationship existence between variables of age, sex and education with selective, sustained attention and planning abilities by means of computerized cognitive tasks among healthy adults. Methods: A cross-sectional study was implemented duri...
متن کاملEffect of Different Cognitive Loads on Gait Stability in Younger and Older Adults
Purpose: As many older people fall during dual tasks, we aimed to examine the effect of different cognitive loads on learning gait stability in younger and older adults. Methods: 10 younger (Mean±SD age: 25.91±3.42 years) and 10 older adults (Mean±SD: 66.65±4.28 years) were healthy volunteers without a history of falls. They were asked to do three tasks on a treadmill with cognitive load (none...
