چکیده
The ability to recognize emotions undergoes major developmental changes from infancy adolescence, peaking in early adulthood, and declining with aging. A life span approach emotion recognition is lacking the auditory domain, it remains unclear how speaker’s listener’s ages interact context of decoding vocal emotions. Here, we examined age-related differences childhood until older adulthood tested for a potential own-age bias performance. total 164 participants (36 children [7–11 years], 53 adolescents [12–17 48 young adults [20 –30 27 [58 – 82 years]) completed forced-choice categorization task nonverbal vocalizations expressing pleasure, relief, achievement, happiness, sadness, disgust, anger, fear, surprise, neutrality. These were produced by 16 speakers, 4 each age group (children [8 –11 [14 –16 [19 –23 [60 –75 years]). Accuracy improved declined adults. Moreover, patterns improvement decline differed category: faster development surprise delayed fear surprise. Vocal more difficult when compared all other groups. No evidence an was found, except children. findings support effects both speaker listener on are decoded inform current models perception. (Less)

متن کاملResilience Across the Life Span
This chapter discusses the concept of resilience from a life span perspective informed by relational developmental systems theory. Resilience involves mutually benefi cial (adaptive) relations between characteristics of individuals (e.g., their self-regulation behaviors) and features of the ecology (e.g., resources promoting healthy development); these links may be represented as individual ←→ ...
متن کاملLoneliness across the life span.
Most people have experienced loneliness and have been able to overcome it to reconnect with other people. In the current review, we provide a life-span perspective on one component of the evolutionary theory of loneliness-a component we refer to as the reaffiliation motive (RAM). The RAM represents the motivation to reconnect with others that is triggered by perceived social isolation. Loneline...
متن کاملNew directions in developmental emotion regulation research across the life span: Introduction to the special section
Research on the development of emotion regulation has become a prominent topic in developmental science covering a broad age range from infancy to old age because of its theoretical importance and practical implications. This introductory essay of this special section includes reflections on some of the conceptual themes of this research field and thoughts about its future directions.
