چکیده

This study deals with the physico-chemical, mineralogical and geotechnical characterization of alluvial clays from Batchenga in Cameroon a view to their use as building materials for housing. The clay (Arg.All) was collected locality at village Natchigal (4˚20'40''N 11˚37'40''E 378 m altitude) fired between 900˚C 1100˚C. Characterization performed by XRD, XRF, DTA/DTG, firing tests. DTA/DTG infrared analysis methods were on these clays. linear shrinkage, mechanical strengths, water absorption, porosity density measured products. results obtained show that major oxides are Arg.Lat SiO2 (72.13%), Al2O3 (14.1%), Fe2O3 (4.45%) Arg.All: (48.91%), (23.79%), (9.54%). products based clay, present flexural strength 4.45 MPa 6.80 As those lateritic is 0.53 0.76 respectively 900 33.69% 22.93% 1100˚C 39.55% 36.01% Water absorption 18% 11.16% 22.43% 21.16% respectively. These suggest its have better characteristics regardless temperature manufactured addition degreaser recommended improve performance clay.

Moisture expansion and mass gain in fired clay ceramics

We report the first measurements of mass gain and expansive strain in clay ceramics immediately following firing. The results show that both mass gain and expansive strain follow a well defined two-stage process, each stage of which is linear with (time)1/4, with a transition from the first to the second stage commencing at t ∼ 1.5 h. The first stage mass gain and strain rates are ∼3.5 times gr...

Production of Household Paint using Clay Materials

The use of clay materials for the production of emulsion paints was investigated. Two types of clay: White tinged with Purple and Smooth clay (WSP) and Grey Brown and Coarse clay (GBC), were used for the production of Emulsion Clay Paints (ECP). Conventional Chemical pigmented Paint (CP) was also produced as a control. Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, (AAS) was used to determine the chemical com...

Geotechnical Characterization of Mined Clay from Appalachian Ohio: Challenges and Implications for the Clay Mining Industry

Clayey soil found in coal mines in Appalachian Ohio is often sold to landfills for constructing Recompacted Soil Liners (RSL) in landfills. Since clayey soils possess low hydraulic conductivity, the suitability of mined clay for RSL in Ohio is first assessed by determining its clay content. When soil samples are tested in a laboratory, the same engineering properties are typically expected for ...

Synthesis and Characterization of Porous Clay Heterostructures

Porous clay heterostructures (PCH) based on modified montmorillonite were synthesized using different reaction conditions (different hydration degrees, pH values and reaction times). The PCH precursors and PCH were characterized using FTIR Spectroscopy and X-Ray Diffractions (XRD). The XRD results showed that basal distance of porous clay heterostructures was significantly influenced by the mod...

Polyethylene/Clay/Graphite Nanocomposites as Potential Materials for Preparation of Reinforced Conductive Natural Gas Transfer Pipes

A series of high-density polyethylene/Cloisite 20A/graphite nanocomposites were prepared via melt blending for the production of polymeric pipes for natural gas transfer. The microstructural, mechanical, thermal, electrical and barrier properties of prepared nanocomposites were investigated. An intercalated morphology was observed for prepared nanocomposites. Improved mechanical properties ...
