Tunneling between edge states in a quantum spin Hall system.
We analyze a quantum spin Hall device with a point contact connecting two of its edges. The contact supports a net spin tunneling current that can be probed experimentally via a two-terminal resistance measurement. We find that the low-bias tunneling current and the differential conductance exhibit scaling with voltage and temperature that depend nonlinearly on the strength of the electron-elec...
متن کامل1 99 3 Resonant Tunneling Between Quantum Hall Edge States
Resonant tunneling between fractional quantum Hall edge states is studied in the Luttinger liquid picture. For the Laughlin parent states, the resonance line shape is a universal function whose width scales to zero at zero temperature. Extensive quantum Monte Carlo simulations are presented for ν = 1/3 which confirm this picture and provide a parameter-free prediction for the line shape.
متن کاملAnomalous charge tunneling in fractional quantum Hall edge states at a filling factor ν=5/2.
We explain effective charge anomalies recently observed for fractional quantum Hall edge states at ν=5/2 [M. Dolev, Y. Gross, Y. C. Chung, M. Heiblum, V. Umansky, and D. Mahalu, Phys. Rev. B 81, 161303(R) (2010)]. The experimental data of differential conductance and excess noise are fitted, using the anti-Pfaffian model, by properly taking into account renormalizations of the Luttinger paramet...
متن کاملQuantum Hall Effect in chiral d - wave charge density waves
We study the electromagnetic response of a chiral dxy + id x 2 −y 2 charge density wave state. Due to parity (P) and time reversal (T) violation, Chern-Simons terms emerge in the effective action of the U(1) gauge field. As a consequence electric and magnetic fields are coupled providing the possibility of observing the Spontaneous Quantum Hall Effect i.e. generation of Hall voltage via the sol...
متن کاملFast electronic resistance switching involving hidden charge density wave states
The functionality of computer memory elements is currently based on multi-stability, driven either by locally manipulating the density of electrons in transistors or by switching magnetic or ferroelectric order. Another possibility is switching between metallic and insulating phases by the motion of ions, but their speed is limited by slow nucleation and inhomogeneous percolative growth. Here w...
