Chemical Oxidation and Reduction Pathways of Mercury Relevant to Natural Waters: A Review

چکیده

Mercury (Hg) pollution in the environment is a global issue and toxicity of mercury depends on its speciation. Chemical redox reactions an aquatic greatly impact Hg evasion to atmosphere methylation natural waters. Identifying abiotic pathways relevant waters important for predicting transport fate environment. The objective this review summarize current state knowledge specific at molecular level. rate constants factors affecting them, as well mechanistic information these pathways, are discussed detail. Increasing experimental evidence also implied that structure organic matter (NOM) play role dark Hg(II) reduction, Hg(0) oxidation photoreduction Significant photooxidation identified by hydroxyl radical (OH•) carbonate (CO3−•). Future research needs improving understanding cycling proposed.

a comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection

supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...

Mercury in Marine and Oceanic Waters—a Review

Mercury contamination in water has been an issue to the environment and human health. In this article, mercury in marine and oceanic waters has been reviewed. In the aquatic environment, mercury occurs in many forms, which depend on the oxidation-reduction conditions. These forms have been briefly described in this article. Mercury concentrations in marine waters in the different parts of the w...

Mercury speciation in natural waters: Measurement of dissolved gaseous mercury with a field analyzer

Mercury evasion from water is commonly modeled using measurements of dissolved gaseous mercury (DGM). We developed a method using a recently available automated field-ready mercury vapor analyzer to rapidly measure the concentrations of DGM in surface waters. We summarize here results of laboratory tests of the method, field intercomparisons with a manual method, and selected data from recent s...

Mechanistic steps in the photoreduction of mercury in natural waters

Elemental mercury accounts for 10-50% of the dissolved mercury in lakes but plays a vital role in the cycling of this element in lacustrine environments. The view is advanced that a large fraction of the Hg(0) is generated by photochemical reactions in the surface waters. Possible mechanisms for the Hg(0) production are discussed including homogeneous photolysis of dissolved Hg species and phot...

Microbial reduction and oxidation of mercury in freshwater lakes.

The evasion of elemental mercury represents a significant pathway for reducing the level of this potentially toxic material in aquatic ecosystems. The evasion rate is controlled by the concentration of dissolved gaseous mercury (DGM) across the air-water interface, water, and air temperature as well as wind speed. Here we investigate the role of microbial mercury oxidation and reduction in regu...
