Classifying Toe Walking Gait Patterns Among Children Diagnosed With Idiopathic Toe Walking Using Wearable Sensors and Machine Learning Algorithms

چکیده
Idiopathic toe walking (ITW) is a gait abnormality in which children touch at initial contact and demonstrate limited or no heel throughout the cycle. Toe results poor balance, increased risk of falling, developmental delays among children. Identifying steps during can facilitate targeted intervention diagnosed with ITW. With recent advances wearable sensing, communication technologies, machine learning, new avenues managing behavior are feasible. In this study, we investigate capabilities Machine Learning (ML) algorithms identifying foot (heel strike versus strike) utilizing body sensors. Thirty-six (Age 9.4±2.8 years) ITW participated study. Six ML algorithms, consisting Support Vector Machines (SVM), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), Multi-layer Perceptron (MLP), Gaussian process (GP), could successfully classify patterns We found that simple KNN algorithm resulted highest accuracy 92.92% F1-score 93.20% to differentiate best when using all four also higher variability sacral vertical accelerations Accurate quantification clinical applications critical for assessing rehabilitation progress designing interventions

Idiopathic Toe Walking: A Gait Laboratory Review.
Idiopathic toe walking (ITW) is defined as one who is neurologically normal but demonstrates a preference for walking on the toes. It is a diagnosis of exclusion so differential diagnoses such as cerebral palsy, neuropathy or myopathy must be ruled out. A review of 102 patients attending a gait laboratory with a presumptive diagnosis of ITW found that gait analysis data agreed with this diagnos...

BACKGROUND Idiopathic toe-walking (ITW) is a condition in which otherwise healthy children walk on their toes. The diagnosis is a diagnosis of exclusion. The aim of this study was to elucidate the occurrence of neuropsychiatric symptoms among 5- to 13-year-old children with ITW. METHODS Fifty-one consecutive children (31 boys, 20 girls) with a mean age of 9 years and 1 month were referred to ...
متن کاملIdiopathic toe walking and sensory processing dysfunction
BACKGROUND It is generally understood that toe walking involves the absence or limitation of heel strike in the contact phase of the gait cycle. Toe walking has been identified as a symptom of disease processes, trauma and/or neurogenic influences. When there is no obvious cause of the gait pattern, a diagnosis of idiopathic toe walking (ITW) is made. Although there has been limited research in...
متن کاملFoot and ankle characteristics of children with an idiopathic toe walking gait
BACKGROUND Idiopathic toe-walking (ITW) in children has been associated with ankle equinus. Although equinus has been linked to foot deformity in adults, there has been limited investigation of the impact of equinus on structural foot change in children. We used the weightbearing lunge test and the six-item version of the Foot Posture Index (FPI-6) to evaluate the weightbearing foot and ankle m...
