Cognitive characteristics in firefighter wayfinding Tasks: An Eye-Tracking analysis

چکیده
During search and rescue, firefighters need to find paths in an unfamiliar space with minimum time information available. The effective memorization retrieval of critical spatial can help reduce risks increase mission efficiency. Although evidence has shown that different formats wayfinding information, including landmarks, routes, surveys, impact rescue performance manners, a deeper understanding the characteristics firefighters’ cognitive processes related varying is less explored. To evaluate firefighter experiment Virtual Reality (VR) was conducted. Firefighters (n = 40) were recruited participate simulated task. After reviewing formats, requested three victims inside VR maze as quickly possible. Task evaluated by number found spent. Firefighters’ gaze patterns analyzed their status. result showed although load under survey route conditions significantly higher than landmark condition (p < 0.001), decision-making involved more process choosing right path at waypoints such where turning decision must be made. Thus, perceived workload fatigue levels two lower, better. In contrast, consistently high, along increased mental fatigue. findings reveal series features rescue. future, it expected these used develop real-time monitoring prediction models for performance.

Many people are encountered with finding the best way to reach to their destination. One definition for wayfinding is “the act of travelling to the destination by continuous processes of making route-choices whilst evaluating previous spatial decisions against stable cognition of the environment. General understanding and keen appraisal of the environment can aid decision-making process of how...

Introduction: Designing multimedia learning environments should consist of the evidence-based study and principals about the human learning process. Eye tracking is a way based on the learner processing of learning materials which presented in multimedia learning environments. The aim of the study was to examine the use of the eye-tracking method to investigate the cognitive processes in m...
متن کاملPath Choice in Different Wayfinding Tasks
Path choice behavior in different wayfinding tasks was investigated. Participants experienced a small virtual indoor environment in three different learning conditions (free exploration, uninformed search, path following) followed by a search or a path planning task. To complete the task they had to pass a choice point at which they were forced to choose one of two paths, both leading to the ta...

Nowadays, there is an increase of studies that examine individuals’ cognitive characteristics in correlation to visual perception. The present study investigated the association between cognitive abilities and Web page complexity. Specifically, differences within simple, medium and complex Web pages were observed among the field dependent, independent and mixed cognitive groups via a task compl...
