Comparative Analysis of the Cooling Efficiency in Tropical Climate of Three Alternative Materials for Evaporative Cooling Pads

A comparison between commercial cellulose evaporative cooling pad and pads manufactured with three alternative materials was made for environmental conditions typical of tropical countries. Wind tunnel tests were carried out to compute the convective heat mass transfer coefficients measure pressure drop across each pad, obtaining expressions that can be used as reference future simulations. Using a mathematical model, detailed analysis efficiency, Temperature–Humidity Index, temperature relative humidity through performed in terms different operative constructive conditions, such air velocities, dry-bulb temperatures, thickness. Significant differences found, which increases inlet velocity water flow. weak relation analysed variables while high correlation variables, thickness external established. Cooling efficiencies above 40% Index below mild zone thermal stress obtained panels. Although showed best behaviour all aspects, substituted specific applications reduce inside agricultural facilities.
