Comparative Structural Analysis of GFRP, Reinforced Concrete, and Steel Frames under Seismic Loads

Fibre-reinforced polymer composites in general, and especially glass fibre-reinforced (GFRP), have increasingly been used recent decades construction. The advantages of GFRP as an alternative construction material are its high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosive resistance, durability, ease installation. main purpose this study is to evaluate the response under dynamic conditions (more specifically, seismic loads) compare performance composite with that two traditional building materials: reinforced concrete structural steel. To aim, a finite element analysis carried out on two-dimensional frame modelled steel, (RC), or pultruded materials subjected input. structure evaluated for three terms displacements, inter-storey drift, base shear, stress. results show good frame, stress distribution displacements halfway between those RC Most importantly, outperforms other reduced weight and, thus, shear (−40% compared steel −88.5% RC).
