Comparing the Slider Measure of Social Value Orientation with Its Main Alternatives

The Slider Measure of social value orientation (SVO) was introduced as an improvement from existing measures. We conduct independent assessment its suitability compared with the Ring and Triple Dominance Measure. Using a student sample, we assess measures’ test-retest reliability (N = 88; using longer time interval than previous studies) sensitivity to random responses. Analyses pertaining convergent validity, criterion advantages continuous over discrete measure are presented in online appendix . Compared alternatives, has highest reliability. However, it classifies responses unbalanced way, assigning vast majority cooperative individualistic, rather altruistic competitive, orientations.
