Compilation of a City-Level & Four-Digit Industry Code MRIO Table Based on Firm-Level Data

Scholars have attempted to compile various multi-region input-output (MRIO) tables for different countries. However, due city-level data scarcity and methodology constraints, almost no MRIO table covers a large number of cities with more disaggregated sectors in countries economies, such as China. Based on two large-scale firm-level datasets, the China Annual Survey Industrial Firms (CASIF) survey Customs Data (CCD) database, from 2000 2013, this paper uses case study presents new compilation method construct an covering 284 prefecture-level administrative 334 four-digit sectors, which is by far most comprehensive largest segmented industries Unlike existing constructed based provincial single-region IO (SRIO) tables, we use information along linear constraints implied sector-level statistics. This expands direct decomposition developing auxiliary econometric models necessary estimations consistency adjustment. In addition, comparative analysis shows reliability our method, guarantees better coherence comparability officially published National Bureau Statistics (NBS). Therefore, proposed provides possibility producing other similar contexts.
