Composite hydrogels based on calcium alginate and polyethyleneimine for wastewater treatment

Water shortage has risen severely in recent years, confronting mankind with a worldwide challenge, especially as the accessible water resources are further limited by diverse contamination. The most widespread industrial process for treatment is activated sludge process, which, however, excessive production become an enormous environmental problem worldwide. To overcome this problem, hydrogels possess outstanding potential view of adsorptive removal contaminants like heavy metal ions, fertilizers, and dyes. In paper, we report about synthesis biobased alginate hydrogel beads along polyethyleneimine-modified composite treatment. adsorption methylene blue positively charged congo red negatively model dye quantitatively investigated, both separately combination. addition, pH-dependent dyes determined. use alginate-based systems combines several prospects: they bio-based, inexpensive, easily available to sufficient extent, sustainable, applicable broad range wastewater its groups.
