Conservation status assessment of banana crop wild relatives using species distribution modelling

چکیده
Aim Crop wild relatives (CWR) are an essential source of genetic material for the improvement certain traits in related crop species. Despite their importance, increasing public, scientific and political support, large gaps exist amount collected conserved many CWR. Here, we construct a dataset on distribution banana species (Musa spp.) assess risk conservation status. We deal with following questions: (a) What areas potentially suitable species? (b) How much diversity is currently at or insufficiently ex situ? Location Native area species, ranging from north-eastern states India to Australia. Methods assessed potential environmental range using modelling approach MaxEnt. Extinction was evaluated IUCN criterion B, situ status indicator biodiversity sustainable development targets. Results found that 11 out 59 can be considered as vulnerable nine endangered. Highest richness along border south China northern Vietnam, Malayan peninsula. Our indicates Indo-Burmese region has highest suitability most lowland rain forests general highly bananas. Assessment 56 49 high priority further conservation. Additional six medium 40 Main conclusions To date, little CWR sufficiently both situ.

Enhancing the Conservation of Crop Wild Relatives in England
Humans require resilient, rapidly renewable and sustainable supplies of food and many other plant-derived supplies. However, the combined effects of climate change and population growth compromise the provision of these supplies particularly in respect to global food security. Crop wild relatives (CWR) contain higher genetic diversity than crops and harbour traits that can improve crop resilien...
متن کاملConservation of allelic richness in wild crop relatives is aided by assessment of genetic markers.
Wild crop relatives are an important source of genetic variation for improving domesticated species. Given limited resources, methods for maximizing the genetic diversity of collections of wild relatives are needed to help spread protection over a larger number of populations and species. Simulations were conducted to investigate the optimal strategy of sampling materials from populations of wi...
متن کاملPotential Implications of Climate Change on Aegilops Species Distribution: Sympatry of These Crop Wild Relatives with the Major European Crop Triticum aestivum and Conservation Issues
Gene flow from crop to wild relatives is a common phenomenon which can lead to reduced adaptation of the wild relatives to natural ecosystems and/or increased adaptation to agrosystems (weediness). With global warming, wild relative distributions will likely change, thus modifying the width and/or location of co-occurrence zones where crop-wild hybridization events could occur (sympatry). This ...

Dung beetle populations, in decline, play a critical ecological role in extensive pasture ecosystems by recycling organic matter; thus the importance of their conservation status. Presence data available for Copris hispanus (L.) and Copris lunaris (L.) data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...
