We study the effect of self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) and baryons on shape early-type galaxies (ETGs) their haloes, comparing them to predictions cold (CDM) scenario. use five hydrodynamical zoom-in simulations haloes hosting ETGs ($M_{\rm vir}\sim 10^{13}M_{\odot}$ $M_{*}\sim10^{11}M_{\odot}$), simulated in CDM a SIDM model with constant cross-section $\sigma_T/m_\chi = 1\ \mathrm{cm}^2 \mathrm{g}^{-1}$. measure three-dimensional projected shapes baryonic content using inertia tensor compare our measurements results three $HST$ samples gravitational lenses $Chandra$ $XMM-Newton$ X-ray observations. find that inclusion greatly reduces differences between SIDM, together ability draw constraints based shapes. Lensing reject dark-matter-only prefer one hydro scenarios. When we consider total sample lenses, observational data The emitting gas are compatible both runs, predicting higher elongations only very centre. Contrary previous claims at scale elliptical galaxies, conclude can still explain observed once include simulations. Sersic Galaxy with Sersic Halo Models of Early-type Galaxies: a Tool for N-body Simulations

We present spherical, non-rotating, isotropic models of early-type galaxies with stellar and darkmatter components both described by deprojected Sersic density profiles, and prove that they represent physically admissible stable systems. Using empirical correlations and recent results of N-body simulations, all the free parameters of the models are expressed as functions of one single quantity:...

Resonant Scattering in Young Galaxies — Predictions from Cosmological Simulations

We present results obtained with a 3D, Lyα radiative transfer code, applied to a fully cosmological galaxy formation simulation. The developed Monte Carlo code is capable of treating an arbitrary distribution of source Lyα emission, neutral hydrogen density, temperature, and peculiar velocity of the interstellar medium. We investigate the influence of resonant scattering on the appearance and p...

MOND predictions of “halo” phenomenology in disc galaxies

We examine two corollaries of MOND pertaining to properties of the equivalent darkmatter halo. MOND predicts for pure exponential discs a tight relation involving the halo and disc scale lengths and the mean acceleration in the disc, which we find to test favorably against the Verheijen sample of Ursa Major galaxies. A correlation between halo and disc length scales is also apparent when the “m...

Tying dark matter to baryons with self-interactions.

Self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) models have been proposed to solve the small-scale issues with the collisionless cold dark matter paradigm. We derive equilibrium solutions in these SIDM models for the dark matter halo density profile including the gravitational potential of both baryons and dark matter. Self-interactions drive dark matter to be isothermal and this ties the core sizes and sh...

Constraining Dark Halo Potentials with Tidal Tails

We present an extensive parameter survey to study the influence of halo mass profiles on the development of tidal tails in interacting disk galaxies. We model the galaxies using a fixed exponential disk with a central bulge and vary the halo potential over a range of parameters using both the Hernquist and NFW mass distributions, probing the effect of the halo mass, extent and concentration. We...
