چکیده

The dispersion measures (DM) of fast radio bursts (FRBs) encode the integrated electron density along line-of-sight, which is typically dominated by intergalactic medium (IGM) contribution in case extragalactic FRBs. In this paper, we show that incorporating wide-field spectroscopic galaxy survey data foreground localized FRBs can significantly improve constraints on partition diffuse cosmic baryons. Using mock DMs and realistic lightcone catalogs derived from Millennium simulation, define surveys be carried out with 4m 8m-class wide field facilities. On these simulated surveys, carry Bayesian reconstructions order to estimate matter field. comparison `true' field, help reduce uncertainties structures $\sim 2-3\times$ compared variance. Cosmic Matter Distribution: Cosmic Baryon Budget Revisited

The cosmic baryon budget is revisited using modern observations that have become available since our first publication. I also present an estimate for the heavy element abundance. An increased accuracy in the accounting of the baryon budget reveals ‘missing baryons’, which amount to ≈ 35% of the total. This would provide an interesting test for models of the cosmic structure formation.

The magnetic field and turbulence of the cosmic web measured using a brilliant fast radio burst.

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are millisecond-duration events thought to originate beyond the Milky Way galaxy. Uncertainty surrounding the burst sources, and their propagation through intervening plasma, has limited their use as cosmological probes. We report on a mildly dispersed (dispersion measure 266.5 ± 0.1 parsecs per cubic centimeter), exceptionally intense (120 ± 30 janskys), linearly polar...

Constraining Strong Baryon–Dark Matter Interactions with Primordial Nucleosynthesis and Cosmic Rays

Self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) was introduced by Spergel & Steinhardt to address possible discrepancies between collisionless dark matter simulations and observations on scales of less than 1 Mpc. We examine the case in which dark matter particles not only have strong self-interactions but also have strong interactions with baryons. The presence of such interactions will have direct implic...

The Cosmic Baryon Budget

We present an estimate of the global budget of baryons in all states, with conservative estimates of the uncertainties, based on all relevant information we have been able to marshal. Most of the baryons today are still in the form of ionized gas, which contributes a mean density uncertain by a factor of about four. Stars and their remnants are a relatively minor component, comprising for our b...

Constraining Inflation with Cosmic Microwave Background Polarization

Observations of the polarization of the cosmic microwave backround (CMB) have the potential to place much tighter constraints on cosmological parameters than observations of the fluctuations in temperature alone. We discuss using CMB polarization to constrain parameters relevant for distinguishing among popular models for cosmological inflation, using the MAP and Planck satellite missions as ex...
