Construction Site Layout Planning Using a Simulation-Based Decision Support Tool

Background: A site layout plan is one of the important decisions to be made in planning phase each construction project as it can significantly impact on-site transportation, logistics, and safety. This decision could complicated owing uncertainties inherent projects complex relationships between influencing factors variables. Methods: To improve planning, this study aims develop a simulation-based support tool (DST) that enables planners consider following: (1) uncertainties, (2) resources (i.e., material, equipment, workers), (3) constraints, (4) mutual impacts variables, for projects. Results: The developed DST visualizes within simulation environment provides seamless interactions model model. These capabilities facilitate using by establishing two-way information flows components, which further promote application planning. Usefulness practicality proposed demonstrated steel erection project. Conclusions: Using reduce some common wastes cost associated with them, including material handling storage, waiting time arrival.
