چکیده
This paper focuses on Aristotle’s discussion of PNC in Metaphysics Gamma and argues that the argument operates at three different levels: ontological, doxastic, semantic through invocation philosophical personae: first one (the philosopher) can only state what is otherwise unprovable, second (a geometer) confirm we should trust PNC, third sophistical opponent) denies must be silenced. Aristotle cannot prove beyond proof. situation results a fundamental ambiguity figure philosopher. The written from standpoint an investigative thinker who admits her puzzlement before question will forever remain open imagines another philosopher has achieved god-like insight into principles all things. path to one, however, remains enigmatic leap.

Word Meaning and Commonsense Metaphysics
In this paper, we outline a model of semantics that integrates aspects of discourse-sensitive logics with the compositional mechanisms available from lexically-driven semantic interpretation. Specifically, we concentrate on developing a composition logic required to properly model complex types within the Generative Lexicon (henceforth GL), for which we employ SDRT principles. As we are present...
متن کاملA less simplistic metaphysics: Peirce’s layered theory of meaning as a layered theory of being

Moving away from the usual focus on (contentious) cosmological forces, I use a modal principle to partition various ontological layers: regular sign-action (like coded language) subsumes actual signaction (like here-and-now events) which in turn subsumes possible sig...

Perceptual rivalry, which implies binocular rivalry and ambiguous figure perception, is characterized by perceptual alternation between two stable interpretations of an unchanging stimulus. It is well known that the time intervals of alternation follow a gamma distribution (GD) commonly in various kinds of perceptual rivalry. A critical question is whether the GD reflects some general mechanism...
