Contribution of Wind Farms to the Stability of Power Systems with High Penetration of Renewables

Power system inertia is being reduced because of the increasing penetration renewable energies, most which use power electronic interfaces with grid. This paper analyses contribution emulation and droop control to stability. Although may appear best option mitigate frequency disturbances, a thorough analysis shortcomings that face real-time implementations shows opposite. Measurement noise response delay for hinder controller performance, while inherently fast converters provides better support. System stability, expressed in terms rate change (ROCOF) nadir, therefore improved control, compared emulation.
