Control effects on coherent structures in a non-uniform adverse-pressure-gradient boundary layer

چکیده
We examine the effects of three basic but effective control strategies, namely uniform blowing, suction, and body-force damping, on intense Reynolds-stress events in turbulent boundary layer (TBL) developing suction side a NACA4412 airfoil. This flow is subjected to non-uniform adverse pressure gradient (APG), which substantially modifies its turbulence statistics with respect zero-pressure-gradient (ZPG) layer, it also changes how strategies affect flow. The strong APG results that are shorter more often detached from wall than ZPG TBLs. In quadrant analysis, ejections remain most relevant structures, sweeps become important TBLs, fact lower contribution wall-normal velocity events. Control relatively less statistics. Uniform blowing has an impact similar even APG, while complex effects, likely due particular behavior component near wall. Body-force damping reduces probability occurrence very-large attached structures proximity actuation region. Our show robust features If do not target directly these their pronounced mean • makes slightly shorter. longer. wall-attached structures.

Influences of Large-scale Structures on Skin Friction in an Adverse Pressure Gradient Turbulent Boundary Layer
Direct numerical simulation (DNS) of a turbulent boundary layer (TBL) subjected to adverse pressure gradient (APG) at Reτ = 834 is performed to investigate large-scale influences on vortical motions. For comparison, DNS data of a zero pressure gradient (ZPG) TBL at Reτ = 837 is analyzed. The spanwise energy spectra of the streamwise velocity fluctuations show that the large-scale energy above 4...
متن کاملCoherent structures in turbulent boundary layers with adverse pressure gradients
The coherent structures in turbulent boundary layers (TBLs) subjected to adverse pressure gradients (APGs) were investigated by analyzing a database of direct numerical simulations. The equilibrium adverse pressure gradient flows were established by using a power law free-stream distribution. The population trends of the spanwise vortices show that the outer regions of the APG TBLs are densely ...
متن کاملLES of the adverse-pressure gradient turbulent boundary layer
We describe large-eddy simulations (LES) of the flat-plate turbulent boundary layer in the presence of an adverse pressure gradient. The stretched-vortex subgrid-scale model is used in the domain of the flow coupled to a wall model that explicitly accounts for the presence of a finite pressure gradient. The LES are designed to match recent experiments conducted at the University of Melbourne wi...

متن کاملConstant adverse pressure gradient turbulent boundary layers
Significant progress has been made towards understanding the large scale features of wall-bounded shear flow in zero pressure gradient (ZPG) turbulent boundary layers (TBL). Here we consider their effects in adverse pressure gradient (APG) flows where the pressure gradient parameter is held constant and Reynolds number is varied. This is done by documenting the changes in the mean velocity, str...
