Convection effect on solidification microstructure: dendritic arm spacing and microsegregation

Abstract Convection affect primary crystalline structure, particularly, the dendrite crystal velocity and tip radius. The present work aims on influence of convective flow spacing between neighbouring crystals within ensemble. Solidification a binary alloy is considered model stagnant boundary layer, under imposed thermal gradient which microstructure chemical microsegregation. Chemical composition in solidifying liquid solid derived from solution solute diffusion transport equation taking into account flow. results are consistent with Scheil-Brody-Flemings model, experimental data computational results.
