CONVEYANCE LOSSES ESTIMATION FOR OPEN CHANNELS IN MIDDLE EGYPT CASE STUDY: ALMANNA MAIN CANAL, AND ITS BRANCHES

Whereas the irrigation water transmission open channel network in Egypt, is one of largest and longest networks all over world that dogged permeable soil (Its length reaches about 33500 km). In a country suffers greatly from an increasing shortage limited available quantities, ignoring expected huge quantities losses through transport operations path madness, to bridge accelerated gap between what required, exist. Irrigation conveyance include seepage, evaporation, transpiration losses. The used data this research was collected field official Ministry resources authority Assiut governorate. analysis proved that, total loss Almanna canal its branches 16.05 Million cubic meters monthly. lost only seepage 15.95 monthly, representing 99% water. While, rate increase evaporation at earthen sections more than designed can be neglected. Thus, lining most effective solution for saving such amount water, directed it irrigate some newly reclaimed areas, addition, solve problems non-arrival ends canals. At same time, improving environmental situation surrounding agricultural community.
