Cooperation in indefinitely repeated helping games: Existence and characterization

چکیده
Experiments that investigate the spontaneous emergence of money in laboratory societies rely on indefinitely repeated helping games with random matching (Camera et al., 2013; Camera and Casari, 2014). An important open issue is lack a general proof existence an equilibrium capable supporting efficient allocation under private monitoring, without money. Here, we fill this gap by offering proof, as well characterizing non-monetary equilibrium. This technique can be extended to study simultaneous actions.

Five Indefinitely Repeated Games in the Laboratory
I experimentally test play in five indefinitely repeated games: a hawk-dove game, a game of chicken, a trust game, a coordination (stag-hunt) game, and a constant-sum game. I compare the different game histories that affect decision making in each of the games. I find that the common game history relevant to decision-making across all but the constant-sum game is consistent with the strategy ti...
متن کاملImitation and Cooperation in Different Helping Games
The relation between imitation and cooperation in evolutionary settings presents complex aspects. From one hand, in any environment where egoists are favored over cooperators by selection processes, imitation should lead to a further spreading of the former ones due to the combined processes of individual selection and replication of successful behaviors. On the other hand, if cooperators succe...
متن کاملLearning Cooperation In Repeated Games
In the eld of multi-agent systems, the study of coordination, cooperation and collaboration assumes a prominent position. Most of the research concerned with these issues concentrates on explicit negotiation between agents, on the investigation of settings in which global system goals have to be balanced with agents' individual goals or on the exploitation of real-world knowledge to determine e...
متن کاملCommunication and Cooperation in Repeated Games
The proposition that communication is necessary for cooperation seems quite natural, even self-evident. Indeed, in the old testament story of the Tower of Babel, God thwarted the mortals’attempt to build a tower reaching the heavens merely by dividing the languages. The inability to communicate with each other was enough to doom mankind’s building project. At a more earthly level, antitrust law...
متن کاملEssays in Cooperation and Repeated Games
This dissertation explores cooperation when formal contracts and legal institutions are imperfect. The first chapter (co-authored with Isaiah Andrews) considers how a principal allocates business among a group of agents to motivate them in the context of a repeated game with imperfect private monitoring. If players are impatient, the optimal relational contract dynamically allocates future busi...
