Copper (II)-Catalyzed Oxidation of Ascorbic Acid: Ionic Strength Effect and Analytical Use in Aqueous Solution

چکیده

Copper is an important metal both in living organisms and the industrial activity of humans, it also a distributed water pollutant toxic agent capable inducing acute chronic health disorders. There are several fluorescent chemosensors for copper (II) determination solutions; however, they often difficult to synthesize solvent-sensitive, requiring non-aqueous medium. The present paper improves known analytical technique ions, where linear dependence between ascorbic acid oxidation rate constant concentration used. limits detection quantification analysis kinetic method determined be 82 nM 275 nM, respectively. In addition, selectivity chosen indicator reaction shown: Cu2+ cations can quantified presence 5–20 fold excess Co2+, Ni2+, Zn2+ ions. La3+, Ce3+, UO22+ ions do not catalyze reaction. effect common background electrolytes studied, anomalous influence chloride-containing salts observed discussed.

Ascorbic acid and copper in linoleate oxidation. II. Ascorbic acid and copper as oxidation catalysts.

Both ascorbic acid and copper were strong prooxidants in the oxidation of linoleate in a buffered (pH 7.0) aqueous dispersion at 37 degrees C. Minimum concentrations at which catalytic activity was detected were 1.3 x 10(-7) m for copper and 1.8 x 10(-6) m for ascorbic acid. For concentrations up to 10(-3) m, the increase in rate of oxidation with increase in concentration of catalyst was great...

Both ascorbic acid and copper were strong prooxidants in the oxidation of linoleate in a buffered (pH 7.0) aqueous dispersion at 37OC. Minimum concentrations at which catalytic activity was detected were 1.3 X 10-7 M for coppcr and 1.8 X 10-6 M for ascorbic acid. For concentrations up to lop3 M, the increase in rate of oxidation with increase in concentration of catalyst was greater for ascorbi...

Glutathione stabilizes ascorbic acid in aqueous solution

This report shows that glutathione affects ascorbic acid degradation in aqueous solution resulting in a significant stabilization of the vitamin. For the GSH concentrations used in this work the effect was higher on diluted ascorbic acid solutions. It is also shown that for a fixed ascorbic acid concentration, as glutathione concentration increases the degradation reaction shifts from first to ...

Kinetics and mechanism of the Co(II)-assisted oxidation of L-ascorbic acid by dioxygen and nitrite in aqueous solution.

A detailed study of the oxidation of L-ascorbic acid by dioxygen and nitrite in water at pH 5.8 and 7.0, catalyzed by the octasulfophenyltetrapyrazinoporphyrazine complex of cobalt(II), was carried out using conventional spectrophotometric, low-temperature and high-pressure stopped-flow techniques. The Co(II) complex activates L-ascorbic acid through an intramolecular one-electron oxidation ste...

Oxidation of ascorbic acid by a (salen)ruthenium(VI) nitrido complex in aqueous solution.

The oxidation of ascorbic acid (H2A) by [Ru(VI)(N)(L)(MeOH)](+) in aqueous acidic solutions has the following stoichiometry: 2[Ru(VI)(N)] + 3H2A → 2[Ru(III)(NH2-HA)](+) + A. Mechanisms involving HAT/N-rebound at low pH (≤2) and nucleophilic attack at the nitride at high pH (≥5) are proposed.
