Crack tip microplasticity mediated by microstructure gradients

چکیده
Traditional fracture theories infer damage at cracks (local field) by surveying loading conditions away from (far field). This approach has been successful in predicting ductile fracture, but it normally assumes isotropic and homogeneous materials. However, myriads of manufacturing procedures induce heterogeneous microstructural gradients that can affect the accuracy traditional models. work presents a microstructure-sensitive finite element to explore shielding effects grain size crystallographic orientation on crack tip microplasticity blunting. A dislocation density-based crystal plasticity model conveys texture evolution, effects, directional hardening computing constraint structures. The results demonstrate microstructure act as buffer between local far fields affects variability. For nominal opening loading, ductility non-negligible multiaxial plastic deformation. Furthermore, driving forces based measuring displacements are less affected microstructure, which suggests experimental methods smear out important

Origin of Crack Tip
This paper demonstrates that rapid fracture of ideal brittle lattices naturally involves phenomena long seen in experiment, but which have been hard to understand from a continuum point of view. These idealized models do not mimic realistic microstructure, but can be solved exactly and understood completely. First it is shown that constant velocity crack solutions do not exist at all for a rang...
متن کاملCrack Tip Interpolation, Revisited
It is well known that the near-tip displacement eld on a crack surface can be represented in a power series in the variable p r, where r is the distance to the tip. It is shown herein that the coe cients of the linear terms on the two sides of the crack are equal. Equivalently, the linear term in the crack opening displacement vanishes. The proof is a completely general argument, valid for an a...
متن کاملCompressive Stresses near Crack Tip Induced by Thermo-Electric Field
In this paper, the thermo-electro-structural coupledfield in a cracked metal plate is studied using the finite element analysis. From the computational results, the compressive stresses reveal near the crack tip. This conclusion agrees with the past reference. Furthermore, the compressive condition can retard and stop the crack growth during the Joule heating process. Keywords—Compressive stres...
متن کاملCrack Tip Dislocation Nucleation in FCC Solids
We present results of molecular dynamic simulations aimed at examining crack tip dislocation emission in fcc solids. The results are analyzed in terms of recent continuum formulations of this problem. In mode II, Au, Pd, and Pt displayed a new unanticipated mechanism of crack tip dislocation emission involving the creation of a pair of Shockley partials on a slip plane one plane below the crack...
متن کاملImproved quarter-point crack tip element
We present a modification to the quarter-point crack tip element and employ this element in two-dimensional boundary integral fracture analysis. The standard singular element is adjusted so that the near-tip crack opening displacement satisfies a known constraint: the coefficient of the term which is linear in the distance to the tip must vanish. Stress intensity factors calculated with the dis...
