Cross-Validation of Hybrid-Electric Aircraft Sizing Methods

The number of studies on hybrid-electric aircraft is steadily increasing because these configurations can lead to lower operating costs and environmental impact than traditional aircraft. However, due the lack reference data actual aircraft, design tools results are difficult validate. This paper analyzes key points that must be validated when developing or implementing a tool by contrasting assumptions two independently developed sizing methods. An existing 19-seat commuter selected as baseline test case, both used size then resized under consideration propulsion technology. performed for parallel, serial, fully electric powertrain architectures. Finally, sensitivity conducted assess validity basic approaches regarding Both methods found predict maximum takeoff mass (MTOM) with less 4% error.
