Crustal Imbrication in an Alpine Intraplate Mountain Range: A Wide?Angle Cross?Section Across the Spanish?Portuguese Central System

چکیده

Intraplate ranges are topographic features that can occur far from plate boundaries, the expected position of orogens as described in tectonics theory. To understand lithospheric structure intraplate ranges, we focused on Spanish-Portuguese Central System (SPCS), most outstanding feature central Iberian Peninsula. The SPCS is an Alpine range exhumes Precambrian-Paleozoic rocks and located at >200 km northern border microplate. Here, provide a P-wave velocity model based wide-angle seismic reflection/refraction data (Gredos sector). Our results show: (a) layered lithosphere characterized by three major interfaces: Conrad, Mohorovicic, Hales discontinuities, (b) asymmetry crust-mantle boundary under SPCS, (c) extent Variscan batholith forming main outcrops Gredos, (d) thinning lower crust toward south. This suggests exhumation basement was driven south-vergent thick-skinned thrust system, developed southern part promoted crustal imbrication Mohorovicic discontinuity's offset SPCS. Thus, deformation mechanisms seem to be controlled presence late- post-Variscan granitoids assimilated mid-crustal detachment creating new rheological boundary. tectonic allowed formation crustal-scale systems eased coupled upper crust, leading limited underthrusting both layers.

Crustal structure across the central Alaska Range: Anatomy of a Mesozoic collisional zone

[1] A first‐order process in the growth of continents is the collision and accretion of terranes against continental margins. Collision leads to the formation of a suture zone between the accreted terrane and the former continental margin. New insights on the suturing process are observed from two receiver function transects across the Mesozoic Alaska Range suture zone. Three distinct crustal s...

Alpine flora of Hezar mountain (SE Iran)

Iran is a mountainous country. Hezar Mt., is an isolated mountain with the highest peak of 4465 m (above sea level) located in southeast of Iran. This paper aims to provide a general overview of alpine phytodiversity of Hezar Mt. Alpine regions are above timber-line which is dependent on the climate, slopes and human activities. The timberline at Hezar Mt., is varying from 3200 m (North slope) ...

Seasonal characteristics of flood regimes across the Alpine–Carpathian range

The aim of this paper is to analyse the differences in the long-term regimes of extreme precipitation and floods across the Alpine-Carpathian range using seasonality indices and atmospheric circulation patterns to understand the main flood-producing processes. This is supported by cluster analyses to identify areas of similar flood processes, both in terms of precipitation forcing and catchment...

Predicting Plant Species Distribution Across an Alpine

5 Predictive models constitute an important tool in ecology. Using presence/absence data of 6 15 plant species of an alpine rangeland in northern Spain, and a set of 14 topographical and 7 geomorphological descriptors of relatively easy acquisition, we examined and compared the 8 performance of five state-of-the-art methods used in ecological modeling: Multiple Logistic 9 Regression (MLR), Arti...
