چکیده
Background and Aims: Nephrotoxicity is an adverse effect, which may occur with the use of tenofovir/lamivudine/efavirenz (TLE) in treatment human immune deficiency virus (HIV) infection. Curcumin (CUM), isolate Curcuma longa L. used folk medicine for ailments. This study attempts to establish whether CUM supplementation can protect against a rat model TLE-induced nephrotoxicity. Materials Methods: Adult male Wistar rats (n=40) were randomly grouped supplemented orally (50, 100 200 mg/kg/day) prior oral administration TLE (300/300/600 30 days. After treatment, fasted overnight, weighed anesthetized. Blood samples collected, sera extracted biochemical analyses. Kidney excised, processed oxidative stress markers histology. Results: Body weight was decreased (p<0.01) whereas kidney increased administered when compared control. Significant (p<0.001) increments serum uric acid, creatinine, urea malondialdehyde levels observed TLE-administered rats. decreases total protein, albumin, electrolytes, superoxide dismutase, glutathione, catalase glutathione peroxidase produced tubular necrosis hypercellular glomerulus mesangial proliferation kidneys treated However, mg/kg) abrogates nephrotoxicity dose-related manner at p<0.05, p<0.01 p<0.001, respectively, group. Conclusion: seems effective

Curcumin Ameliorates Methotrexate-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Rats
Methotrexate is an effective anticancer and immunosuppressive agent. However, nephrotoxicity is one of the complications of its use. On the other hand, curcumin, a naturally occurring polyphenolic compound, is reported to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Those two properties are likely to prevent methotrexate-induced nephrotoxicity. The aim of this study is to evaluate the pos...
متن کاملRenoprotective effect of curcumin on acetaminophen-induced nephrotoxicity in rats
This study investigated the nephroprotective effect of curcumin against acetaminophen (APAP)induced nephrotoxicity in rats. APAP-induced nephrotoxicity was evident by a significant increase (P<0.01) of urea and creatinine in serum. Furthermore, a significant increase (P<0.01) of lipid peroxidation as malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), protein carbonyl (PC) contents, interleukin-1β(IL-1β)...
متن کاملProtective role of curcumin on cadmium-induced nephrotoxicity in rats
Cadmium (Cd) is a well-known human carcinogen and a potent nephrotoxin. Curcumin, the yellow bioactive component of turmeric has established its antioxidant activities. The aim of this study was to investigate the protective role of curcumin against Cd induced nephrotoxicity. The rats were treated once daily by oral gavage for five days and divided into four groups of 8 rats each: control, Cd a...

Background: Curcumin, a major constituent of tumeric powder, is renowned for its anti-inflammatory effect but the studies of its effects on nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)-induced gastropathy are still
متن کامل1,2-Diazole prevents cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity in experimental rats.
BACKGROUND Cisplatin (a platinum-compound) is a anti-neoplastic drug used in the treatment of various cancers but eventually results in severe adverse effects namely nephrotoxicity or renal disorder through generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). This biochemical measurements and histopathology analysis investigated a possible protective effect of 1,2-diazole with regards to cisplatin-indu...
