Deep Learning of Retinal Imaging: A Useful Tool for Coronary Artery Calcium Score Prediction in Diabetic Patients

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are one of the leading causes death in developed countries. Previous studies suggest that retina blood vessels provide relevant information on cardiovascular risk. Retina fundus imaging (RFI) is a cheap medical test already regularly performed diabetic population as screening retinopathy (DR). Since diabetes major cause CVD, we wanted to explore use Deep Learning architectures RFI tool for predicting CV risk this population. Particularly, coronary artery calcium (CAC) score marker, and train convolutional neural network (CNN) predict whether it surpasses certain threshold defined by experts. The preliminary experiments reduced set clinically verified patients show promising accuracies. In addition, observed elementary clinical data positively correlated with suffering from disease. We found results both informational cues complementary, propose two applications can benefit combination image analysis data.

Coronary artery calcium (CAC) score – a prognostic tool in coronary artery disease?

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of measurement of coronary artery calcification score (CAC) in patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) and a normal myocardial perfusion scan. Methods: In a prospective study we measured the calcium score of 74 patients (29 m, 45 f, mean age 58.7 (m) and 64.4 (f)) with suspicion of CAD and a normal perfusion scan. In ...

Coronary Artery Calcium Score Improves the Prediction of Occult Coronary Artery Stenosis in Ischemic Stroke Patients

BACKGROUND Coronary heart disease is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in stroke patients. The coronary artery calcium score (CACS) has emerged as a robust and noninvasive predictor of coronary events. We assessed the predictive ability of CACS to identify stroke patients with severe (≥50%) occult coronary artery stenosis in a stroke/transient ischemic attack population, in additio...

Coronary artery calcium score combined with Framingham score for risk prediction in asymptomatic individuals.

CONTEXT Guidelines advise that all adults undergo coronary heart disease (CHD) risk assessment to guide preventive treatment intensity. Although the Framingham Risk Score (FRS) is often recommended for this, it has been suggested that risk assessment may be improved by additional tests such as coronary artery calcium scoring (CACS). OBJECTIVES To determine whether CACS assessment combined wit...

An automatic deep learning approach for coronary artery calcium segmentation

Coronary artery calcium (CAC) is a significant marker of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular events. In this work we present a system for the automatic quantification of calcium score in ECG-triggered non-contrast enhanced cardiac computed tomography (CT) images. The proposed system uses a supervised deep learning algorithm, i.e. convolutional neural network (CNN) for the segmentation and classi...
