چکیده

Present research aims to develop a finite element computational model examine delamination-fretting wear behaviour that can suitably mimic actual loading conditions at HAp-Ti-6Al–4V interface of uncemented hip implant femoral stem component. A simple contact configuration based on fretting fatigue experimental arrangement subjected different mechanical and tribological properties consist pad (bone), HAp coating Ti–6Al–4V substrate are developed using adaptive modelling approach adopting modified Archard equation be examined under static simulation. The is validated verified with reported literatures. findings revealed significant recorded edge (leading edge) as result substantial pressure slip driven by stress singularity effect. promoted higher delamination length, lower normal loading, increased porous (cancellous) cortical bone elastic modulus cycle number due relative amplitude the reduced rigidity. Tensile-compressive condition (R=−1) experiences most (8 times higher) compared ratio R=0.1 R=10.

Generation of Fretting Wear Debris at the Stem– Cement Interface in Total Hip Replacment

Fretting wear debris generated at the stem–cement interface has nowadays been considered to play an important role in the overall failure of cemented total hip replacement (THR). Those wear debris within a certain size range would transport along bone cement deficiencies to bone tissue, resulting in a significant bone resorption and subsequent aseptic loosening of the femoral component, which i...

Reproduction of fretting wear at the stem-cement interface in total hip replacement.

The stem-cement interface experiences fretting wear in vivo due to low-amplitude oscillatory micromotion under physiological loading, as a consequence it is considered to play an important part in the overall wear of cemented total hip replacement. Despite its potential significance, in-vitro simulation to reproduce fretting wear has seldom been attempted and even then with only limited success...

Numerical Modeling of Fretting Wear

In this paper, a review of some techniques proposed in the literature for modelling fretting wear is presented. Fretting wear occurs when surfaces are degraded and materials are removed due to a small relative oscillatory motion between two contact surfaces. Due to the continuous change in the shape of a structure during its lifetime, the design of engineering components subjected to fretting w...

Failure of a modular hip implant at the stem-sleeve interface.

In the current era of total hip arthroplasty (THA), orthopedic surgeons have several fixation options at their disposal. The modern monoblock prosthesis, introduced by Dr. Sir John Charnley, has seen many modifications since its inception in the 1970s and continues to be the most commonly used prosthesis style for primary and revision THA. Proximal modular sleeve technology was introduced in 19...
