Descriptive Study on Dietary Pattern and Health Status of Adolescents from Rural Bengaluru

Background: Changing lifestyle and food consumption patterns have greater impact on the health status of adolescents including rural, urban peri-urban areas. Adolescents are vulnerable age group needs special attention to meet daily recommended nutrient intakes, especially as it lays foundation for adult life. Thus, this study was planned document sociodemographic pattern residing in rural Bengaluru. Methods: A semi-structured questionnaire designed based pilot-study collect data anthropometric profile, socioeconomic pattern. The calculated per cent adequacy nutrients intake. Result: suggested that majority (80%) respondents belonged lower middle class only 12-16% were from upper class. Sixty-eight had normal BMI while still 29 underweight. Skipping meals noted more adolescent girls than boys. macronutrients, less micronutrients; however, calcium higher due regular finger millet consumption.
