Design and Analysis of Ultrasonic Composite Transducer with a Quarter-wave Taper Transition Horn

Based on the electromechanical equivalent circuit theory, equations related to resonance frequency and magnifying coefficient of a quarter-wave vibrator taper transition horn were deduced, respectively. A series 3D models ultrasonic composite transducers with various conical section length was also established. To reveal influences prestressed bolt dynamic characteristics (resonance frequency, amplitude, displacement node, maximum stress) design accuracy, finite element (FE) analyses carried out. The results show that addition increases causes node center axis move towards small cylindrical section. As rises, increment reduces tends stable value 360 Hz while becomes lager gradually approaches 1.5 mm. Furthermore, amplitude output terminal is at 16.18 μm under 220 V peak-topeak (77.8 VRMS) sinusoidal potential excitation. After that, prototype fabricated validated experiments conducted. experimental are consistent theory simulations. It provides theoretical basis for optimization small-size, large-amplitude, high-power transducers.
