Design approach for cost-effective hybrid CLT floors

There is a growing research and production interest for the application of lower-cost hybrid cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels composed layers dissimilar quality. Therefore, an approach design cost-effective CLT in bending, based on existing analytical novel finite element procedures, presented paper. The gamma-method, extended gamma method, composite theory are applied analysis square panels, while model Reddy’s full layerwise used complex-shape bending. An extensive benchmark technical economic study performed 25 considering various spans, lamination schemes, geometries, boundary conditions. Cost savings made by using lower class central zones highlighted quantified. This concept shows potential that should be considered during structural engineering applications, such as lightweight floor structures.
