Designing of low-cost spectrometer for sensor application

Increase in the population demands healthy food, clean air, fresh water and high secured life. To fulfil above demands, spectrometers such as ultraviolet, Fourier transformation infrared, Raman, HPLC, gas chromatography are used confirmation tool for identification of materials. The cost space above-mentioned instruments more to build low-cost spectrometer with efficiency is a challenging research area material scientists engineers. In present work, an attempt has been made manufacture spectrometer. designed using cardboard, DVD, webcam free available spectrum software named theremino. DVD diffraction grating image sensor overall Rs 1000. This can be instrument practical demonstration students other purposes detecting pesticides level fruits vegetables, sensing purity level, edible oils, etc. spectral range improved by removing infrared filter integrated webcam. performance constructed could upgrade effective filters intense lasers. will boon towards application healthcare, biomedicals food processing applications.
