Determinants of Waste Management Practices and Willingness to Pay for Improving Waste Services in a Low-Middle Income Country

In many low and middle-income countries, solid waste management (SWM) systems remain weak lack standardization. Moreover, these fail to account for citizen’s insight on the proposed initiatives. This study aims identify main determinants of SWM practices in a low-middle income country while accounting citizens’ perceived knowledge, attitudes, structural barriers, willingness pay different services. Three communities were thus selected with varying socioeconomic factors where adopted. A cross-sectional based an interviewer-administered questionnaire was conducted across three areas. Our results showed that increased knowledge awareness proper did not correlate people’s attitudes nor their adoption positive practices, such as reusing, reducing, recycling, sorting waste. Nevertheless, presence effective system community positively influenced attitudes. Structural determinants, including appropriate facilities adequate infrastructure, public sorting, composting, well absence guiding policies, appeared be core barriers hindering sustainable communities. The this highlight importance establishing integrated developing they appear trigger behaviors by serviced citizens.
