Abstract Teaching practical laboratory skills is a key component of preparing undergraduate students for future careers in chemistry and elsewhere. In this paper, we present our new strategy to teach students. We report Skills Inventory, list the suggested graduate chemist should possess; was compiled by chemists across UK. course begin decoupling skill from theoretical background, compelling first master basic processes needed carry out specific technique. what have termed ‘spiral curriculum’ approach, are revisited on multiple occasions, with increasing complexity greater emphasis underlying theory. The makes links traditional subdisciplines avoid compartmentalisation ideas.
