Developing an Organizational Readiness Framework for BIM Implementation in Large Design Companies

BIM is a set of interacting processes, human, information, and technology components. A successful implementation in organizations requires not only the consideration technical issues but also other organizational changes. However, existing standards, guidelines, protocols mainly focus on guiding practitioners right way to develop implement technology. Change management for has had sufficient attention practice components, which would result ineffectiveness inefficiency. In process change, readiness considered first critical step break status quo before going adoption institutionalization phase when necessary changes are implemented, system internalized. This study aims comprehensive framework help large design firms build up capabilities phase. Twelve semi-interviews were conducted with participation specialists working companies, consultants, Design-Build contractors Vietnam. The consists six key elements: strategy, structure, process, people, technology, information management. Each these elements was developed specific criteria support companies assess create implementation. paper ends further discussion influential factors creating BIM.
